SAGINAW, MI — Get ready, Great Lakes Bay Region — professional basketball is back and bringing the heat! The newly launched Saginaw Soul, Saginaw’s own professional basketball franchise, is making waves as they gear up for their inaugural season in the Basketball Super League (BSL) — and it all starts with open tryouts on May 10th!
Hosted at the Center Courts Recreational Facility, the tryouts are more than just an opportunity for aspiring hoopers — they mark the beginning of a movement. The Soul is building its roster from the ground up, offering a shot at the pros for players with grit, grind, and game.
“We’re not just forming a team, we’re building a family — a culture that reflects the heart and hustle of Saginaw,” said Head Coach Isaiah “Zeke” Thomas, son of NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas. “We want to see that local talent come alive. If you’ve got skill, passion, and soul — this is your moment.”
The Soul’s mission extends beyond the court. This team is all about community, opportunity, and pride, representing a resurgence of professional basketball in a region known for its rich athletic history.
Tryouts are open to male athletes 18 and older with serious aspirations of going pro. Participants must register in advance and come ready to show their best in drills, scrimmages, and interviews. The coaching staff is on the hunt for elite competitors who not only shine on the court but lead with integrity off it.
